My name is Mika, and I’ve lived in some pretty cool cities over the past few years.

Tokyo, Oxford, Montreal: big, small and medium, all very different and spread across three continents, but in the past few years, I’ve noticed some things about the secret lives of cities.

Cities are the places where trends are set, where politics, economics, arts and culture meet, clash and create a beautiful cacophony which sets the beat of the world. Cities are places where the craziest, smallest, most absurd things like extreme fashion trends or failed inventions are somehow tied into the bigger things like international trade policies or sovereignty disputes.

I want to tell the story of my cities, how they sometimes just get along with their daily lives, and then sometimes are crazy, unique, and just plain disturbing; how they are caught up in bigger worldwide network of politics, economics and global society, and how these things trickle down and shape the daily lives of the people who make them up. This blog is not about me, but about the lives of the cities where I’ve lived.
